Benton’s Ninth Annual Concert in the Park will be held on August 20th at 5:30 p.m. The featured group this year is “The Nelons”, with tight family harmonies, timeless songs and a passion for worship. The Nelons have been captivating audiences for four decades, standing on the legacy of founder and patriarch Rex Nelon. A pre-concert by “Raven Creek” will be held at 4:30 p.m. They entertain with gospel-Bluegrass, once a month at the Community Center in Jerseytown.

Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass will be in concert, Tuesday, August 22nd, 7 p.m. At First Baptist Church, Danville. A freewill offering will be received during the concert.

Beavertown God’s Missionary Church invites Children Ages 3 through 12 to Vacation Bible School, August 15th through the 20th. It will be held weekday evening from 6 – 8, and at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday. The theme is “Submerged – Diving Deep in God’s Word!” There will also be activities for youth ages 13 through 20. Bus transportation is available from Penn’s Creek, Middleburg, Beavertown, Beaver Springs, McClure and surrounding areas. For information call 570-658-2422.

The American Legion Post 40, Danville, will have a Pig Roast, Saturday, August 19th from 3 to 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The Women’s Center will be presenting a puppet show as part of the “Build A Better World” Summer Reading at the Thomas Beaver Free Library, Danville. On Thursday, August 24th see The Power Of Friends, a no more bullies program. This show is free and open to the public. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hamline Church Fellowship, Benton, will hold its “Church Yard Sale” on Saturday, August 26th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch and all items will be by donation. Nothing has a set price tag. The church is located three miles from Benton on Route 239.

Friendship Fire Company, Ferry Street, Danville, will hold a Chicken BBQ, Saturday, August 26th beginning at 11 a.m. You can eat-in or take-out. To preorder call 570-275-1661.

The MI Charitable Foundation is holding a Summer Concert on Saturday, August 26th at the Ned Smith Center in Millersburg. The event will feature three live bands, a meal, and a raffle. All proceeds will benefit the Foundation’s local outreach efforts and its three national partnerships – St. Jude Children’s Research Center, Four Diamonds, and Homes for Our Troops. Doors open at 4 p.m. With the meal and concerting beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 717-365-2681. Guests must be 21 or older.

The Oaklyn Independent Baptist Church, Sunbury, will host an “Ole Time Hymn Sing” on Sunday, August 27th at 6 p.m. Local musicians will also provide special music, and lite refreshments will follow. The church is located ¼ mile south of the Route 890 intersection along Route 61.

Teenage (Mothers of Preschoolers) meet at the Pregnancy Care Center on Market Street, Shamokin, on the first and third Mondays at 4 p.m. All pregnant women and moms up to age 21 are invited to join for fun, fellowship, and mutual support.

Saint Paul Calvery United Methodist Church, on Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, will hold a Fall Family Festival on Saturday, September 9th from 11 a.m. To 3 p.m.. Kingdom Kidz will be presenting two programs

A “World Hunger Food Packing Event” will be held Saturday, September 9th, 9 to 11 a.m. At First Baptist Church, Danville. 350 volunteers are needed to pack 60,000 meals of rice & lenils, and 6,000 seed packs. The food and seeds will be distributed to refugees and needy people in Africa and the Middle East.

“Emmanuel’s Kettle” free lunch will be held Saturday, September 9th, 11:30, 12:30, or 1 p.m. At Emmanuel Baptist Church, Millville

“Starry Night Danville” is a fundraising run benefitting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The event is an 8.5 run/1 mile walk at Hess Field on Saturday, September 9th from 4 to 9 p.m.. Registration is $25 in advance and $30 day of the run. There will be pony rides, puppy kissing booth, ice cream truck, auction, food, vendors and more. Kingdom Kidz Puppet Ministry will present the Worship Service at Mifflinburg United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 10th at 10 a.m. For their Rally Day event. A soup and sandwich meal will be provided for everyone after the service. The church is located at 279 Market Street, Mifflinburg.
